Polanie Scholarship 2010-2011

Founded in 1927, the Polanie Club was formed to celebrate the language, traditions, customs and ideals of our Polish ancestors, their music, literature and arts; to foster in Americans of Polish descent a consciousness and pride in their heritage; to spread the knowledge of Polish culture to all interested persons; and to encourage higher education and scholarship among people of Polish descent.

The Scholarship Committee of the Polanie Club will review the application materials submitted by each student and award a $2000 scholarship to five applicants. Scholarships will be awarded in two payments of $1000 each, mailed directly to the financial office of the recipient’s school. Decisions of the Scholarship Committee are final.

Applicants must meet all of the following qualifications:

  • Citizen or Permanent Resident of the United States
  • Minnesota Resident
  • Age 18-25
  • Verifiable Polish Ancestry
  • Grade Point Average of at least 2.8
  • Seeking financial aid for education beyond high school
  • The application MUST include:

  • A completed Application for Scholarship 2010-2011
  • An essay on a topic listed below
  • On a separate page, one paragraph containing any supplemental information that makes you a good candidate for the Polanie Club scholarship. (Extracurricular activities, involvement in community, volunteering
  • Essay:

    Please write a one-page essay on one of the following topics:

  • Who do you consider to be the greatest Polish composer? Write about his contributions to the world of music
  • What are the mutual benefits of Polish membership in the European Union
  • How does the poetry of Adam Mickiewicz, Juliusz Slowacki and Kamil Cyprian Norwid reflect their love and longing for their homeland Please select one and explain in your essay why you chose that poet
  • Please list all Polish Nobel Prize laureates. Tell us which one is your favorite and why
  • Timeline:

  • Applications must be postmarked by July 1, 2010
  • All applicants and recipients will be notified by August 31st 2010
  • Checks to the scholarship recipients will be issued in September 2010 and December 2010
  • The Polanie Club will ask for permission to publish each recipient’s name, hometown, school, major, and photograph.
